my approach
I strive to provide a warm, compassionate, and empowering environment for clients to explore their concerns in depth. My goal is to help clients make lasting changes that are consistent with their values. I use a variety of evidence-based methods, including emotionally-focused, cognitive-behavioral, and acceptance-based therapies. My approach is highly adaptive, and sensitive to the specific needs of each individual and couple that I work with.
my background
I earned my B.A. in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, and my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the San Diego VA hospital, where I specialized in the treatment of trauma and couples distress.
I draw from over a decade of clinical experience. I have worked with individuals and couples in a variety of settings, including community clinics, university research centers, and inpatient and outpatient hospital units. I have served on the teams of federally-funded research studies, and have disseminated my work via publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national conferences. I have instructed over a dozen undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in psychology, and have trained clinicians domestically and abroad (in the Netherlands) before transitioning to private practice.
Prior to my graduate studies, I served as an active duty officer in the U.S. Navy and was deployed overseas in support of combat operations.
